Biography

Wolfgang Göllner

The Vienna-born violinist began playing the violin at the age of 4.

School education:

  • Goethe Gymnasium Vienna, lower level
  • Music high school Vienna, upper level

Study:

  • Concert subject at the University of Music and Performing Arts, Vienna
  • Diploma at the Royal College of Music, London
  • 4 years of study with Prof. Alfred Staar

Göllner is a multiple prize winner of worldwide competitions and has recorded 20 CDs as a soloist and chamber musician since 1989.

Göllner worked for 10 years in the orchestra of the Vienna State Opera/Vienna Philharmonic

As a soloist, Göllner made his debut twice in 1997 at the Großer Wiener Musikverein and once at the Vienna’s Brahmssaal, and in 1998 he opened the newly renovated Schubert Hall at the Vienna Konzerthaus with a sonata recital.

He has performed with orchestras such as the “Vienna Festival Symphony Orchestra”, the “Heidelberger Kammerorchester”, the “National Philharmonie Kosice”, the “Wiener Mozart Akademie” under Lord Menuhin, the “Bundesländer Philharmonie”, the “Philharmonie Westfalen” under Johannes Wildner, the “Konzertvereinigung der Wiener Volksoper” (Klangbogen 1998), the “Kärntner Symphonie Orchester” and the “Philharmonie Györ”.

As a stand-up violinist, Göllner regularly conducted the “Johann Strauss Chamber Orchestra Vienna”, the “National Chamber Orchestra Moldava”, the “Strauss Ensemble of the Vienna Symphony Orchestra” and the “Philharmonie Thessaloniki” – to name but a few.

As a chamber musician, Göllner has performed with artists such as Ernst Kovacic, Jörg Demus, Heinrich Schiff, Isabelle van Keulen, Thomas Zehetmair and the Borodin Quartet to name but a few.

Göllner was a several time guest at the Lockenhaus Chamber Music Festival and performed all Mozart string quartets chronologically as part of the “Klangbogen Wien”.

As first violinist he was for many years a member of the “Haydn Quartet Eisenstadt”, the “Wiener Solisten Quartet” and until 2022 the “WESPA Quartet”.

As a lecture, Göllner taught the “Junge Philharmonie Wien”, the orchestra of the “Gustav Mahler Private University”, the “Austrian Youth Symphony Orchestra” and the “Esterházy Academy”.
